Requirements (2013 – 2022)

 

  • Professionals from Europe and also from non-European countries who are – by training and work experience – specialists in palliative care according to the understanding in their respective countries of residence. The professional background (e.g. education, medicine, nursing, social work, spirituality, therapy, etc.) of the applicant is less important.
  • Applicants should have at least three years of full time work experience in palliative care.
  • The term “European countries” refers to the following: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Lichtenstein, Macedonia, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovenia, Slovakia,Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Vatican.
  • As the course is addressed to future leaders in palliative care, you should prove that you are an active palliative care expert in your country. For example: Have you influenced positive change, i.e. through quality improvement measures? Have you taken on any further responsibilities in the field i.e. advocacy initiatives?
  • The course is on a post-graduate level. Thus, you should have the academic potential to be able to follow the course.
  • Furthermore, you need a good working knowledge of English to attend the course (level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
  • You should have a vision for implementing positive change and prove this by working on a personal project. With the application you need to present a project idea. You will be responsible for the development of the concept of the project and are expected to implement the first practical steps before the end of your course at the European Palliative Care Academy. The project should be new, realistic and affect positive change in your palliative care institution and/or the field of palliative care in your region. It can be in any area of palliative care (i.e. organisational development, service development, advocacy, education, research).
  • As part of the course and to further your project you will do an observation week at a palliative care institution of your choice in one of the target countries. The visit at the institution will be organised by the course participant.
